Data Donation Terms/Policies

The Mid-Continent Geological Library (MCGL) is always interested in potentially accepting donations of geological data relevant to the mid-continent region including any type of logs (electric, mud, sample/strip), proprietary scout tickets, general maps (no prospect maps), published books and reference materials.  In addition, we are open to receiving certain historical artifacts that would be appropriate for display in our building.  Prior to accepting any donation, however, an “as-detailed-as-possible” description of the items should be provided to the MCGL either verbally or in writing so we can determine the relevance of and need for the items.  Final acceptance of the donation is at the discretion of MCGL management and its board of directors.

The MCGL is not able to come pick up items to be donated.  Delivery instructions will be provided and the expense of delivering the items will be the sole responsibility of the donor.

Donations can generally be accepted any business day between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.  Advance notification of at least 3-5 days should be given in order for us to be prepared to receive the donation.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, donations to the MCGL are generally tax-deductible, however, you should check with your tax advisor with respect to the specific deductibility of anything donated.  A tax receipt/donation acknowledgment will be provided, however, we cannot and will not place a value on the donation – the valuation is strictly up to you.  Should you want an independent appraisal, we can give you the names of some appraisers who can be contacted directly.
